When I first found out I’d been recognized for this award, I had let out the biggest sigh. Why?! 🤯 I could barely tell anyone about the award, including my own family. All I could think about was all the work we still had to do, how I could do it, and where all that energy would need to come from. ✨ It took a Father’s Day moment with my grandparents to remind me to smell the roses. ✨ 👴👵My grandparents immigrated to the U.S and worked tirelessly in healthcare in many humbling and back-breaking environments. When asked about their hobbies, they had none they could recall except for work and family responsibilities. They did this so my mother, aunts and uncles could achieve greater heights. They worked tirelessly too, so I could finally have the chance to smell the roses they did not. ✨My grandparents said, “you BETTER enjoy this moment. You can work any time. You almost never get recognized for it. Enjoy life while you can!” ✨ So, because I’m historically bad at smelling the roses, I’m sharing today to remind all you hard-working, status-quo-breaking, compassion-radiating healthcare leaders to go out there and find your ‘rose’ this Monday. 🌹 Life is short, spend time wisely. 🌹_______#mondaymotivation #nursesonlinkedin #healthcare

Congrats Grace! You have impacted the lives of healthcare professionals. Your ability to exhibit a phenomenal sense of selfless sacrifice coupled with a truly extraordinary commitment to others does not surprise me. I can’t think of another more deserving healthcare professional in our surrounding area whom has done more for others and for advancing the science of our public health community than you. Congrats! There was a calling - and you certainly answered. In the words of country music star Tim McGraw, “in my next thirty years”, it’s not so much about what you have accomplished these past few years - it’s about what remains ahead. To those of us whom admire and respect you as followers - we realize how much you mean to the surrounding Chicago communities. We appreciate and value your personality and character. Moreover - please know the rest of us are better prepared, more equipped, and willing to assist from learning from your current responsibilities and future endeavors.Thank you for making such a profound difference in the lives of both established and aspiring healthcare professionals. Ultimately our world is a better place because of your influence and your ability to help others in times of need. Thanks!Viva Grace!!

Way to keep making moves, Grace. I mean, with initials/credentials after your name, as long as your name, you gotta be good, right?

It's hard to find mentors. NAAAP Chicago is trying to make this easier. When I was younger, I had a hard time reaching out for support. (As a "less young" person , sometimes I still do! 😝). So, I'm forever appreciative of those who have provided me guidance and support openly, and I do my best to show the same kindness. Today, I'm very grateful to join as a panelist to speak about my journey as a mentor with NAAAP Chicago's GROW Program. 🌱 Looking to grow? 🌱Register for the event below, or just join the program!I'll put more links in the comments section to learn more.__#AlwaysBeGrowing #AAPI #MentorshipMatters

I had a candid conversation with a Chief Nursing Officer. Mid sentence - near bashful - my face flinched hearing the words that came out of my mouth asking her, “Could you mentor me?!” 😬💖🦸🏼♀️ She was the embodiment of humble leadership. Some would call her superwoman, able to attend meeting marathons and mobilize teams across the U.S. in a single bound while maintaining a genuine smile throughout. It’s a tough job to lead and definitely a tough act to follow. So, I wanted to learn from her to help me become a better leader. 😲 And to my surprise, she laughed and replied, “I was hoping YOU would mentor ME!” It was a reminder that as nurses, we need to lift each other up whenever we can no matter our station. Mentorship is powerful and is a two-way experience. We can all learn from each other and be stronger because of it.🤔…Can you identify your supporters?🤔…Have you ever had a nurse mentor?☕…Do you need coffee this morning?😨 Can’t find a mentor? I'll add links in the comment section for organizations that have nurse mentorship programs.💖 Happy Nurses Week! 💖_____#nursesweek#mentorship #leadershipmatters #employeewellbeing #NursesMaketheDifference #nursesonlinkedin

What does a great leader look like to you?In a zoom meeting, sometimes we think this looks like...• A strong wifi connection 📶• Quality headset 🎧• Good lighting 🔦It can also look like...• Building strong relationships 🤝• Authenticity in communication🗣🌏⚖️• Elevating the work of others 🎯Biases will always exist, but I hope we can move farther away from how good someone looks in a suit so we can spend more time improving systems of care.________#leadership #nursesonlinkedin #inclusionmatters

Is it possible to avoid #burnout? 🤯🔥🤔As a nurse... I think we have deep insight into this topic. Nurse leaders have a duty to patients, colleagues, and we tend to forget about ourselves. We need to take breaks, breath, eat, be a human. 🧘♂️⚖️As a leader of many roles...there's whackamole-emailing, meeting marathons, competing priorities, politics, and info overload. We need to slow down, take a walk, reflect on people in our charge, and reflect on ourselves. 🫣🪞Sometimes, it's simply knowing we are not able to do our best work that brings burnout. High-performers near burnout can have decreased concentration, exhaustion, irritability which can result in mistakes. Mistakes in healthcare can sometimes be the difference between life and death. 💣😵So, here are some tools that help me prevent burnout:1. #IDENTIFYBURNOUT 🔍. Check out this Burnout Self Assessment: https://lnkd.in/evske3pX. 2. #TALKtoPEOPLE 🗣. Knowing that you're not alone is one thing, and coming up with strategies to prevent burnout together is another. It can be as simple as reminding people of their value or taking breaks together. Find your people.3. #NATURE 🌴... because people aren't always available or I'm too tired to talk. 🥱Here I am in winter gear exploring an 80-degree rainforest greenhouse because this is my way to rejuvenate during winter ❄️😄🌿Whatever you do, don't ignore signs of burnout. Remember that healthcare is a field where you take care of people. Start with yourself. 🕊💖_______#wellnesswednesday #nursesonlinkedin #burnoutprevention #worklifeintegration
